The Celestial Orchestra
The weatherman is projecting thunder and lightning today. My mind wanders off to years gone by. It is the middle of the night and we are peacefully asleep. Our late dog Max is curled up at the foot of the bed. I am startled out of sleep by the loud clapping sound of thunder. The sky brightens through the curtains by the lightning. Max starts to shake and moan from fright. Peter stays peacefully asleep. I quietly creep out of bed and take Max with me to the other end of the house. I draw a chair by the window and hold Max to me. What a spectacular show! The thunder thunders. The lightning brightens the dark skies. A whole celestial orchestra plays with every powerful instrument it owns. I draw in my breath in wonder and awe, but Max is shaking in my arms. “Don’t worry, Max. It’s only the gods of the sky battling amongst themselves. They do not harm you.” Just then Peter woke up. “Stella, where are you,” he calls out anxiously. “Here. I am here.” He comes and we watch the awesome show nature presented to us together, sitting side by side and hugging Max between us. Memories…
